artist statement

I wish to convey my beliefs that everything is made from one energy and the average human has severed their connection. Through my surreal abstract style I try to uncover juxtapositions around me that point to this fact. Ambiguous imagery seems to properly communicate this severed energy in conjunction with a "no two alike" idea that encompasses all on earth. These sparks from the depths of my mind combined with a strong technical base of material have helped me learn to let go of the need to create and let myself experience. I enjoy testing the limits of many mediums to truly communicate my message. My ravenous need for information has lead me to believe that in order to properly facilitate my work, I must learn more traditionally about additional mediums. This includes what is considered craft ultimately playing with the boundaries of what is art to others. The relationship I have developed with clay is the best example of my process as an artist. Initially, I only enjoyed throwing functional pieces that were beautiful in a quiet way, very technically sound. After many attempts at sculptural work I am finally able to combine my love of throwing with my hand building skills and let my subconscious take control.
